While diamonds, certain precious gemstones and metals are not easily damaged, they do require frequent care to maintain their condition. Some regular TLC can protect the integrity of stones and delay the necessity for repair. Gold, Platinum, Palladium, Silver, Damascus Steel and Diamond/Ruby/Sapphire rings & jewellery can easily be cleaned at home
using simple methods:
- • Soak your jewellery in hot soapy water for 5-10 minutes – mild
- dish soap is fine – to loosen any dirt build up
- • Use a light bristled brush (a soft toothbrush is ideal) to clean
- • Be particularly gentle with delicate settings and older pieces
- of jewellery
- • Ensure all stones are in place before rinsing – and plug the sink!
- • Rinse off and polish your item using a soft, dry, lint free cloth

- The composition of certain coloured gemstones (especially emeralds) & pearls require specialist aftercare –

- White gold is rhodium plated leaving it more susceptible to wear –
a white gold ring will require re-plating from time to time.
- Silver is a softer metal and prone to damage and scratches.
- Pearls are porous and not suitable for prolonged exposure to moisture.
- Have the claws on any ring checked annually.
avoid prolonged contact with water and ideally wear protective gloves when washing dishes – if wet, use a lint free cloth to dry your jewellery
prevent damage and potentially having your ring(s) cut off by removing them prior to excercise / lifting weights /gardening / operating heavy machinery
chlorine and salt water is highly damaging to the metal alloys in gold, ideally you should take off jewellery when swimming and entering a hot tub or spa
pearls & coloured / semi-precious stones can suffer damage or discolouration if exposed to prolonged or excessive heat/direct sunlight – protect your jewellery from such conditions
do not expose rings/jewellery to bleach or cleaning products which are highly damaging – residue trapped in your rings while cleaning can also irritate your skin
it’s advisable to remove all jewellery before going to bed, ring settings/claws are susceptible to damage while chains catch easily as you move around in your sleep
have your ring(s) examined annually to ensure the integrity of the stones, metal and settings are intact
– this will ensure the validation of your insurance also
a build up of dirt can irritate your skin as well as damage your ring/jewellery, regular cleaning can
